Who we are

Marketypes Ltd. is a limited company registered in England and Wales. Our studio is located in London, UK. Our registered office is located at 124-128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX. For the purposes of data protection legislation, Marketypes Ltd. is the data controller.

What we collect

We collect personal information that you provide directly to us. This includes your email address, the first names of individuals you save within your account, their Marketypes, and their birthdays. We also collect responses to our psychometric quizzes for both the account holder and any saved individuals. Technical data, including cookies and session continuity markers, is collected to ensure the site functions correctly.

Why we collect it

Your email address is used for authentication and account security. We use saved names and birthdays to generate timely gift reminders and occasion schedules. Quiz answers are processed via our proprietary algorithm to calculate personality Marketypes. Session cookies are utilised to maintain your signed-in state and ensure a seamless editorial experience.

How long we keep it

We retain your data for as long as your account remains active. If you delete your account, your data — your people, their occasions and quiz answers included — is deleted immediately and permanently. There is no grace period and no way back, so we’ll ask you to confirm before it happens.

Who we share it with

We do not share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. If you click an affiliate link for a product recommendation, you are directed to a third-party retailer; however, no identifying personal data or Marketype profiles are passed through during this transition. We do not sell your information to data brokers.

If someone has saved you

When one of our users saves a person they buy gifts for, we hold a limited record about that person: a first name, a marketype (calculated from quiz answers the user gave on their behalf), any occasion dates the user adds, and any gift notes they write. We never hold contact details for saved people — no email, no phone, no address — which also means we cannot notify you directly that a record exists, and we never contact saved people for any purpose.

If you believe someone has saved you and you’d like the record corrected or erased, email hello@wearemarketypes.com with the first name involved and, if you know it, who saved you — we’ll take it from there.

Special-category-adjacent data

While we do not explicitly collect ‘Special Category’ data as defined by GDPR, we treat personality and psychometric data with an equivalent level of high security. This information is encrypted at rest and is subject to minimal retention protocols to ensure your psychological profile remains private.

Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to access, rectify, or erase your data. You may also object to processing or request data portability.

Most of these rights can be exercised directly through your account settings page.

Cookies

We set strictly necessary cookies only: the Supabase authentication cookies that keep you signed in. No advertising cookies, no analytics cookies, no third-party trackers — which is why you won’t see a cookie banner. The full detail is in our cookie policy.

Analytics

We measure how the site is used with PostHog, hosted in the EU, configured without cookies or device storage — which is why there’s still no banner. Events are things like “quiz completed” or “filter applied”, never names, emails or quiz answers, and result pages are recorded without their codes. Signed-in users are identified only by a random account ID, and you can switch analytics off entirely from your account page. Deleting your account also deletes your analytics profile.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. Signed-in users will be notified via email of any material changes that affect their privacy rights.
