How marketypes works.

We built this because everyone we know is bad at buying gifts. Including us. Especially us.

The problem isn’t effort. It’s that most of us shop for the people we love with almost no useful information about what they’d actually treasure. So we guess, we panic, and we fall back on socks. Marketypes replaces the guess with a reading of who they are.

01

Eight questions

Eight trait statements about the person you're buying for, each answered on a slider. It's a short, honest read of their personality — five minutes, no sign-up.

02

One of sixteen marketypes

Our framework reads four colour families across personality — how they decide, how they socialise, what they value, what persuades them to buy. The eight questions narrow them to one of sixteen distinct types.

03

A curated gift shortlist

Each marketype has gifts that fit and gifts that don't. We've matched the catalogue to the cast.

What this isn’t.

Who we are.

Simon spent years watching retailers segment shoppers by what they clicked last Tuesday and wondered why nobody asked who those people actually were. Marketypes is his answer. He runs the product and the framework.

Ian builds the platform — the quiz, the scoring engine, the catalogue intelligence. If it works, that’s him. If it’s down, that’s also him.

Laura, one of our founding team, shaped how Marketypes worked with its first clients before moving on — much of what the early partners loved carries her fingerprints.

We also build this for retailers. If that’s why you’re here, here’s that page.

Nina Hampson brings two decades of enterprise retail. Adam Price keeps the psychometrics honest. Abe Mauleon keeps the AI sensible.

Questions people ask.

Do I have to make an account?

No. You can take the quiz and see their marketype without giving us anything except a first name. Saving people — so next year's gift is half-decided — is coming soon; that's where we'll ask for your email. Until then, we don't.

Why does the quiz feel a bit… clinical?

The eight questions are trait statements answered on a slider. It's clinical because the science underneath is. We're working on a warmer way to ask them — when it's ready, we'll switch.

Is my data safe?

We treat personality data with the same care the law demands for far more sensitive things. No selling, no sharing, no ad targeting. The privacy page says it in plain English.

Right, ready?
